SAGE Upstate


Works to improve the well-being of older lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people in Central New York through health programs, support groups, network-building events, and education for providers. Holds an average of 30 programs per month in a center located in Syracuse that houses meeting rooms, a drop-in center, and computer stations. SAGE also offers monthly programs in Oswego and Utica, and trains providers in sessions all over the CNY region.

Activities include health programs, fitness classes, support groups, events geared toward reducing isolation, community center, education for providers of aging services.

All meetings and activities are at the Sage Upstate Center unless otherwise noted: 

3 O'Clock Pie:
 Meets once a month, on the first Friday, at 3 PM. Games, coffee, and pie.
60+ Circle of Friends:
A social group for participants who are sixty or older. The group meets once a month, on the third Wednesday, in the afternoon at 12:30 PM. The meeting takes place at a local restaurant each month. Call for details.
Alzheimer's Assn Caregiver Support Group:
Support group for caregivers of people with dementia, facilitated by the Alzheimer's Association. First Tuesday, 3 - 4:30 PM.

Art Classes: Watercolor and other arts classes are held at various times throughout the year, call  for more info. 

Breakfast Club: Meets once a month, on the first Wednesday at 9:30 AM. The meeting takes place at a local restaurant each month. Call for details.

Crafting in the Center: Meets on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 4:30 PM. New projects each session.

Fitness Classes: Sillycize, summer exercise class on Mondays and Fridays at 11:15 AM. In Fall, Falls Prevention classes will resume to help participants improve balance and build strength to help avoid falls. Open to people of all fitness levels. 

Knitting, & Fabric Arts: Knitting, needlecraft circle Wednesday nights at 7:00 PM. Participants can come to learn to knit or to join other experienced knitters in a welcoming environment.

LGBTQ Film Forum: First Saturday of each month at 2 PM, LGBT-themed films and discussion. 

Men's Night Out: Meets on the 3rd Friday of each month at 6:30 PM. This social event includes games, movies, conversation and opportunities for gay, bisexual and transgender men to come together to build social support.

Men's Peer Support Group: Open peer support group for men.Meets on Thursdays at 6 PM.

Monday Night Men's Group: Support group for men; meets every Monday at 6 PM. The group takes new members twice yearly. Call for info on new groups forming. 

Oswego Potluck: Monthly potluck for SAGERs in Oswego County. Meets on the fourth Sunday, 2 PM, Trinity Methodist Church, 45 E. Utica St. in Oswego. Bring a dish to pass if you are able. 

Syracuse 2nd Sunday Potlucks: Social time at 4 PM, program at 5 PM, potluck supper at 6 PM. Past potluck programs have included films, local authors, legal issues, local history, an intergenerational panel, cooking classes, and travel stories. Bring a dish to pass if you are able. 

Trans Social: Safe space for aging trans folks -- bring a snack and a game to share if you are able. Summer schedule, third Saturday at 7 PM. 

Utica Potluck: Monthly meeting for SAGERs in Oneida County. Meets second Saturday each month at Utica Unitarian Church, 10 Higby Rd. in Utica. Bring a dish to pass if you are able. 

Uzuri: Social group for LGBT people of color, meets monthly. The group offers an opportunity for aging LGBT people of color to meet new friends, socialize and find connections in a friendly and supportive environment.  Call for info.

Writing Group: Ongoing group open to writers of all levels, all forms of writing. Wednesdays at 5:30 PM.
